77 Bombay Street, four brothers from Scharans (GR), have won this year’s "MyCokemusic Soundcheck" band competition. With their song "Jenny", they left over 270 other bands trailing in their wake and were able to scoop the main prize worth CHF 20,000.

On the evening of the finale, the Seefeld Razzia bar and venue in Zurich was packed right from early on with fans, music experts and music lovers, as well as journalists. The two short concerts played by the finalist bands demonstrated the high standard of the competition – and placed the jury of experts, who had to decide the winning band, in a difficult decision-making position.

It was 22:15 and it was decision-making time: the jury – comprising Thomas Rechberger (guitarist from Lovebugs), Catja Bellini (singer from Zorg) and music editor Marco Liembd – awarded ‘77 Bombay Street’ the cheque worth CHF 20,000 which is intended to support their musical career. Second-place winner ‘NaxB’ from Zurich didn’t go home empty-handed either: he won a prize worth CHF 2,000.

‘MyCokemusic Soundcheck’ is a springboard

Rambling Wheels from Neuchâtel, winners of last year’s competition, prove that ‘MyCokemusic Soundcheck’ is the optimal springboard: over the last six months, the band has made over 20 on-stage appearances. Playing at smaller event as well as the largest Swiss open-air concerts, the band already has a successful first Swiss tour (together with the Lovebugs) behind it – and all that in the first year since winning Soundcheck 2008!

MyCokemusic.ch was launched by Coca‑Cola in 2004 as a music platform. Since then, MyCokemusic Soundcheck has established itself on the Swiss music scene as a competition for young and ambitious artists. It has given over 2,000 bands the opportunity to showcase their abilities to a broad public. The winning band is given support by a professional team of consultants worth CHF 20,000 – with the winners using the platform as a springboard for their musical careers.

Last year, Rambling Wheels from Neuchâtel managed to make their breakthrough. Along with a new CD, they played at large Swiss open-air concerts, recorded a song at the famous RAK Studios in London and toured Switzerland with the Lovebugs.
